Garsons Joins Cork Recycling Initiative to Support Biodiversity and Reduce Waste
Garsons is proud to be a stockist of Cornish-born homeware brand LIGA, and to become an official partner in their LIGA Cork Recycling Initiative. LIGA ‘make beautiful things out of sustainable materials’ largely attractive placemats and coasters for the home, made from cork and microplastics found on our beaches.
We welcome you to bring in your cork wine stoppers to Garsons for recycling.

Why Recycle Cork?
Cork is a remarkable natural material used in everything from placemats and flooring to aerospace insulation. Even after harvest, cork continues to absorb CO₂ and contribute positively to the environment.
However, climate pressures such as hotter, drier summers and reduced rainfall have impacted cork harvest yields, affecting bark quality and availability. Recycling cork and planting more Cork Oak trees helps safeguard this renewable resource while strengthening natural habitats.
The Impact You’ll Be Making
For every 100 kilograms of cork collected, a Cork Oak tree will be planted, supporting biodiversity restoration and helping combat climate change through natural carbon capture. These trees not only rebuild vital ecosystems but also ensure the long-term sustainability of cork harvesting for generations to come.
So next time you raise a glass, remember to save the cork. Cheers to sustainability.
This cork recycling initiative forms part of Garsons’ wider commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable retail practices.
