Plants of the Month: February

Houseplants

Bring nature indoors by choosing some houseplants. They soften hard lines and add natural colour and style to your indoor space. A home with real plants often feels calmer and has natural charm.

Houseplants don’t just look good, they can boost your health and wellbeing. Just tending a plant can bring a sense of peace and satisfaction, and it’s an easy win when many houseplants are low maintenance. Read the care instructions and position your plants in the right spot in terms of light levels and temperature. Check the soil weekly and water accordingly, but take care not to overwater, especially in winter.

Houseplants are known to increase humidity, which can help improve dry skin and irritated eyes. They are also natural air filters and it’s believed they can reduce the toxic load from everyday pollutants in the home.

Ivy has a reputation for taking over in the garden, but it’s far more manageable as a houseplant and is thought to reduce airborne mould. According to research, some of the best plants for improving air quality include the spider plant, peace lily, rubber plant and ferns.

Use larger plants for ‘zoning’ in open plan spaces. For example, you could position one or more large potted plants to separate a workspace from the living area. Larger or colourful plants can also bring a splash of drama to your home. Some houseplants have vibrant flowers, others have more dainty blooms. Many don’t flower but most are evergreen.

Garsons has a wide range of houseplants, containers and everything you need to help them thrive.
Garsons card holders have 20% off the Plant of the Month range, which means 20% off houseplants in February, excluding ceramics.
