These best plants for clean air will help soften the aesthetics of your home or office and work towards clearing the air around you from common toxins that come from modern-day living. In the 1980s, NASA completed the clean air study, which found the houseplants that do the best job of getting rid of those toxins. They are ideal for all rooms in the home and can also help in a working environment. So here are the best plants that we recommend for you to fill your house with for clean air.

  1. Spider plant
  2. English Ivy
  3. Devils ivy
  4. Gerbera
  5. Mother in laws tongue
  6. Peace lily

1. Chlorophytum comosum (Spider plant)

Still one of the most popular houseplants after many decades! The spider plant is easy to care for, needing very little attention. They can produce 'spiderettes', which are baby plants that hang off the plant and can be potted up. They filter out harmful toxins such as benzene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde.

2. Hedera helix (English ivy)

Ivy is often regarded as an outdoor plant, but they are excellent houseplants and remove many toxins from the home. Happy growing in shade or sun. You can even trim it to be any shape and size you would like. With good care, Ivy can live for many years in a home.

3. Gerbera jamesonii (Gerbera)

Gerbera is a flowering plant available in many bright colours from red to orange, yellow and pink. The flowers look like giant daisies and not only bring joy to a home, they are also helpful at removing toxins from the air. Keep your Gerbera warm and moderately water.

4. Sansevieria (Mother in laws tongue)

Another classic houseplant that can't be missed in any home. Also called the snake plant, they are one of the toughest of houseplants. They require very little care, almost none. In fact, the Sansevieria is an excellent plant for a beginner houseplant enthusiast. Just one of these can clear the air of numerous toxins in the home or office.

5. Spathiphyllum (Peace lily)

With lovely foliage and stunning white flowers, the Peace lily tells you when it needs watering. If it's wilting - you need to water it! Not only does it look graceful, but it is also working hard to rid the air of toxins such as carbon monoxide and formaldehyde.

6. Pothos (Devils ivy)

This low-maintenance houseplant is a beautiful plant for any home and only needs little care. The Pothos is perfect as a trailing plant and can be propagated easily by cuttings. They are effortless to grow from dark green foliage to variegated with watering every 7 - 10 days. Pothos can reduce formaldehyde, benzene and toluene, helping to keep your home or office clean air.
