Millbourne Lodge School has been part of Garsons Growing with Schools for 5 years now.
Last year the Art and IT focused on the 'Six Senses' which culminated in a full school exhibition on Speech Day in June. Part of this show included the school garden and the completion of two Sensory Garden areas which were planned, designed and built entirely by our Year 3 pupils (aged 7 and 8 years). The two separate gardens included plants and solar powered water features to promote sight, touch, sound, smell and taste.
Tiggy Bawden (Millbourne Lodge School): "As well as the Sensory Garden the Wildlife Area grew and matured enormously this year and provided a wonderful splash of colour and texture. It was excellent to show the children just how many varied wild plants could grow in such a small area. The pupils have also continued to harvest their own salad crops throughout the year and there is still great excitement when these are served in the Dining Hall at lunchtimes!"
Perhaps the highlight of our garden in 2015 was the purchase and laying of our new irrigation system thanks to the help and guidance both from Garsons and Hozelock. It has made such a difference to the entire school garden to be able to water throughout the holidays and at weekends. All the plants have grown so well and thrived on the extra water. (See photo)
Thank you all so much at Garsons for your support towards all our garden projects. I hope you can see how the whole school has benefitted so much.
