PYO Pumpkin at Garsons, Esher

What could be more exciting than choosing your own plump pumpkin whilst absorbed in the very essence of Halloween Spirit which we create here on the farm at Garsons, Esher.

Our family-run farm nurtures roughly 30,000 of these vivid gourds every year in the lead up to Halloween, specifically growing the remarkable Racer variety on our 155-acre PYO fields.

Be the envy of all your neighbours… for the first time we have a new luxury pumpkin variety called wicked – a giant ghost of a pumpkin reaching in excess of 20kgs, the size of a large beach ball and GHOSTLY WHITE in colour. They are a limited edition and will be sure to sell out fast!

Our pumpkin fields are open seven days a week (weather permitting) throughout September and October. Bring the kids during half-term for some Halloween fun and involve them on their epic adventure to find the best specimen, which they can take home and carve themselves (with adult supervision!).

Pumpkin tips

* Brush the pumpkin flesh with lemon juice to make it last longer

* Pick up a battery candle from the Garden Centre as a safe alternative to illuminate your pumpkin

* Scrape out and wash the seeds to bake in the oven at a low temperature for 30 minutes. Use to feed wild birds in your garden or dust with salt and enjoy as a healthy adult snack

* Leave your pumpkin in the corner of garden for wildlife such as squirrels and hedgehogs to enjoy once Halloween is over

* Pumpkins have a high-water content and rot quickly so make perfect composters for your garden. Chop up the pumpkin and bury it in the soil to encourage worms which aerate and fertilise the earth
